Airborne Corridor Inspection for natural gas, oil and power lines

The benefits from identifying, measuring and reducing your fugitive gas emissions can be substantial. The US Natural Gas Star program estimates that approximately 20 Billion cubic feet of gas are lost into the atmosphere each year from oil and gas operations. This translates into approximately US$ 20 billion of revenue.

Aerial corridor surveys have emerged as the preferred method for periodic and diligent inspection for pipelines, electrical transmission lines, railroads, and waterways. Today’s asset managers are utilizing Spatial Digital Video Recorders (SDVR), in conjunction with high resolution camera systems to provide geospatial information for corridor surveys.

Red Hen Systems Spatial Digital Video RecorderThe Red Hen Systems Spatial Digital Video Recorder (sDVR) is a complete, real-time geospatial MPEG2 video encoding system designed for simple operation and reliability in harsh application environments such as aircraft, land or water vehicles. The Red Hen Systems sDVR uniquely compliments the Helivision NightEye high resolution camera systems from SWE for implementing state of the art aerial corridor survey technology. Combinations of SWE camera systems for true color, IR, Corona and leak detection are easily recorded by the Red Hen SDVR for simultaneous recording on one to four cameras. The pilot simply flies the assigned route while the Helivision and Red Hen sDVR records the geospatial video and audio from the survey flight.

Media MapperMedia Mapper from Red Hen Systems is a powerful, geospatial multimedia mapping application that enables users to digitally map video, immersive imagery, photographs and audio narration using precise GPS coordinates. Users gain additional spatial orientation by loading background reference maps, aerial or satellite imagery into the digital map set. The union of time, date and location with audiovisual content is a powerful tool in expediting informed decision-making on pipe and power line assets.

The unique combination of application specific, high resolution video cameras and the Red Hen Systens sDVR creates multi-media geospatial information that is extremely valuable for oil, gas and power companies to monitor and maintain their assets.
